Chachapoyas tombs and citadels

The Chachapoyas Tombs and Citadels Trek takes you to some of our favourite places in the Chachapoyas area. You will visit some of the easier places including Kuelap, in preparation for your trek to Tajopampa. Tajopampa is located close to La Petaca, an enormous cliff with many tombs – we estimate something like 150 – and pictographs (it has been featured on the Discovery and History Channels and the BBC Lost Kingdoms of South America). Beyond La Petaca is another cliff tomb site called Diablo Huasi. Coming out from Diablo Huasi we visit a citadel called Boveda surrounded by many ancient terraces.

  Day 1 Fly to Chachapoyas. Huancas hike. Night in La Xalca Hotel.
  
  Day 2 Karajia Sarcopjagi. Night in La Casa de Doña Lola.
  
  Day 3 Kuelap and on to Leymebamba. Night in Kentitambo.  
  
  Day 4 Trek with horses to Tajopampa.
  Leymebamba Mummy Museum on route.  Night in farmstead.
  
  Day 5 La Petaca and Diablo Huasi cliff tombs plus Boveda and return to Leymebamba.  Night in Kentitambo.
  
  Day 6 Drive along spectacular road to Cajamarca.
